Quick answer: An AliExpress seller rating is the store's score out of 5, built from buyer feedback over the last six months. A trustworthy seller shows a store rating of 4.7 or higher, positive feedback above 95%, all three detailed seller ratings at 4.5 or above, and enough orders (thousands, not dozens) for those numbers to mean something.

Last updated: 2 September 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Four numbers matter: store rating (out of 5), positive feedback %, the three detailed seller ratings, and total feedback count. Read them together — a 4.9 from 30 orders is weaker evidence than a 4.7 from 20,000.

  • The ratings are recent, not lifetime. AliExpress calculates positive feedback from the past six months, so a store that has slipped shows it quickly — and a new store can look perfect for a while.

  • Medals, diamonds and crowns show volume, not quality. They are an experience tier. A crown seller with a 4.3 rating is still a 4.3 seller.

  • Badges answer different questions. "Choice" describes platform-managed shipping and returns; "Top Brand" is a seller credential awarded by AliExpress. Neither replaces reading the rating.

  • For dropshippers, the seller decides your refund rate. A one-point difference in "item as described" is the difference between a product that scales and one that eats margin in disputes.

What is an AliExpress seller rating?

An AliExpress seller rating is the store-level score, shown as stars out of 5 on the product page and in the store header, that summarises how recent buyers rated their orders. It is calculated from feedback left in the last six months rather than over the store's whole history, so it reflects how the seller is performing now. The rating sits next to a positive feedback percentage and a feedback count, and every store also carries a set of detailed seller ratings that break the score into three parts: item as described, communication, and shipping speed.

The score is generated by buyers, not by the seller, and a store cannot edit or purchase it. What a seller can influence is the volume of orders behind the number — which is why the count matters as much as the average. AliExpress explains the mechanics on its own seller rating help article.

How is the AliExpress seller rating calculated?

Three separate metrics feed the picture you see on a store page. They are easy to confuse because they all involve stars.

Store rating (out of 5)

The headline star score. It averages the ratings buyers gave on orders from the trailing six months. Most reliable stores sit between 4.7 and 4.9; anything under 4.5 deserves a closer look at the negative reviews before you order.

Positive feedback percentage

This is the share of 4- and 5-star ratings among all ratings in the past six months. A store with 97.5% positive feedback had roughly one buyer in forty leave a 1–3 star review. Above 95% is the common threshold for "safe"; between 90% and 95% is a caution zone; below 90% means a meaningful share of buyers were unhappy recently.

Detailed seller ratings (DSR)

Buyers rate three things separately after each order, each out of 5:

  • Item as described — did the product match the listing photos, specs and quality?

  • Communication — did the seller reply, and were replies useful?

  • Shipping speed — how fast the seller dispatched the order (not the carrier's transit time).

Look for 4.5 or higher in all three. The most predictive one for buyers and dropshippers alike is item as described, because that is the metric that turns into returns and disputes.

What do medals, diamonds and crowns mean on AliExpress?

Alongside the star rating, each store shows a feedback-score tier made of icons. The tiers signal how much positive feedback a seller has accumulated over time — in other words, experience and volume — and follow a simple ladder: medals are the entry level, six medals equal one diamond, and six diamonds equal one crown. A crown store has therefore processed a large number of well-rated orders.

The important nuance: the icons reward quantity of positive feedback, while the star rating measures recent quality. A large store can hold a crown from years of history and still show a 4.4 rating because the last six months went badly. Treat the tier as a filter for "has this seller done real volume?", then let the star rating and DSR decide whether that volume was handled well.

AliExpress seller rating checklist: what to look for

Use the table below as a 60-second scorecard on any store page. It combines the platform's own metrics with the practical thresholds experienced buyers use.

Two of these rows are the ones most guides skip. Feedback count is the denominator: a 5.0 rating from 12 orders is statistically almost meaningless, while a 4.7 from 20,000 orders is a strong, stable signal. And store age matters because the six-month rating window means a store opened three months ago has never had a chance to show a bad quarter.

How to check a seller rating step by step

  1. Open the product page and find the store name under the price. The store rating (e.g. 4.8) and positive feedback percentage sit beside it.

  2. Tap the store name to open the storefront. In the header or "Store Info" you will see the feedback count, the "Open since" date, and the medal/diamond/crown tier.

  3. Open the store feedback page (usually a "Feedback" or "Reviews" link) to see the three detailed seller ratings.

  4. Go back to the listing and filter reviews by "with photos" and, if available, by your country. Read the most recent negative reviews first — patterns (wrong size, missing parts, slow dispatch) tell you more than the average.

  5. Sanity-check the price. A store whose price is 40% below every comparable listing, combined with amber signals above, is the classic setup for a counterfeit or a no-ship order. Our guide to spotting fake products on AliExpress covers the listing-level red flags.

Do the "Choice" and "Top Brand" badges replace the seller rating?

No — they answer different questions, and neither one changes the store's rating.

  • AliExpress Choice is a logistics-and-service label. Choice listings ship through AliExpress-managed channels with faster delivery, free returns within a set window (15 days at the time of writing), and standardised support. It tells you the delivery experience will be consistent; it says nothing about whether the product itself is good.

  • Top Brand is awarded by AliExpress to sellers with a sustained record of reliable shipping, product quality and positive feedback. A seller cannot buy it. It is a useful shortlist filter, but a Top Brand store still has a rating and DSR you should read.

A practical rule: use Choice when you want predictable shipping and easy returns on a low-risk item, use Top Brand as a shortcut when you are choosing between similar stores, and use the rating scorecard above in every case. If you are unsure whether the platform itself is safe, our is AliExpress safe and legit guide explains how buyer protection sits underneath all of this.

How to choose an AliExpress seller for dropshipping

If you are sourcing for a Shopify or DSers store, the seller rating is not a safety check — it is a forecast of your refund rate. Every point of "item as described" below 4.7 shows up later as customer complaints you have to pay for. Weight the scorecard differently:

Priority

One-off buyer

Dropshipper

1

Store rating and positive feedback %

Item as described (DSR) ≥ 4.7

2

Reviews with photos

Shipping speed (DSR) ≥ 4.6 — dispatch delays compound across hundreds of orders

3

Price sanity check

Feedback count ≥ 1,000 and store age ≥ 2 years — you need a supplier that will still exist next quarter

4

Choice badge for easy returns

Communication (DSR) ≥ 4.6 — you will be messaging about stock, packaging and tracking

Order a test unit from any store that passes, and re-check the DSR monthly: because the window is six months, a supplier's slide is visible well before it becomes a wave of disputes. If an order does go wrong, the seller's rating also affects how disputes are weighed — see the AliExpress refund and dispute guide for the timeline.

Once you have a shortlist of reliable sellers, the remaining lever is what each order costs you. Buyers who source repeatedly from the same stores stack coupons with cashback on AliExpress orders — up to 11% back on the same purchase, from the same seller, with no change to the checkout.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good seller rating on AliExpress?
A store rating of 4.7 or higher, positive feedback above 95%, and detailed seller ratings of 4.5 or above in all three categories. Combine that with at least a few hundred — ideally a few thousand — feedback entries so the average is based on real volume.

Is a 4.5 seller rating on AliExpress bad?
Not automatically, but it is a caution signal. A 4.5 means a noticeable share of recent buyers left 1–3 star reviews. Read the most recent negative reviews: if the complaints are about one product or a shipping delay during a sale, the store may be fine; if they describe wrong or poor-quality items, choose another seller.

How long does the AliExpress seller rating window cover?
The positive feedback percentage and store rating are calculated from ratings left in the past six months. That is why a store's score can change quickly and why a brand-new store can show a perfect rating from a handful of orders.

What is the difference between a crown seller and a diamond seller?
Both are feedback-score tiers that reflect accumulated positive feedback. Medals are the entry level, six medals make a diamond, and six diamonds make a crown. A crown seller has handled far more well-rated orders, but the tier does not tell you how the store performed in the last six months — check the star rating for that.

Does the Choice badge mean the seller is trustworthy?
It means AliExpress manages the shipping and returns for that listing, which reduces delivery risk and makes returns easier. It does not rate the seller or the product quality, so still check the store rating and reviews.

Can AliExpress sellers fake their ratings?
Ratings come from completed orders, so they are hard to fabricate at scale, but very new stores with few orders can look perfect for a short time. Weight the feedback count and store age heavily, and be wary of listings where reviews use identical wording.
